Family Worship Sundays

JAM City families!

Here we are digging out of the snow and bundling up to keep warm. It’s been a crazy few days--I hope you are all doing well and making the most of the beautiful snow.

Do you remember back in October when we tried a few weeks of Family Worship Sunday? It was so good to see families sitting together, worshipping the Lord in song. After receiving positive feedback, and with support of our pastoral staff, we are ready to make this an official “thing” and rollout a schedule. The first Sunday of each month will be reserved for our usual JAM Session time (kids worshipping together in JAM City). But all other Sundays will be “Family Worship Sunday” in the Worship Center, during the 9:00 a.m. service only. Family worship Sundays will not affect the 10:30 a.m. schedule--JAM City will continue to run as normal during that time.

What is Family Worship Sunday?

The desire of our staff is to provide opportunities for families to worship together. At 9:00 a.m., kids in PreK thru 6th grade will begin their morning in the Worship Center, experiencing the music portion of the service and being part of the larger body of Christ at Washington Heights.

This will be the schedule every Sunday except the first Sunday of each month, through May. The first Sunday of each month kids will have their own time of worship (JAM Session) in Central Park—just like we’ve been doing.

What Grade levels are included in Family Worship?

  • PreK (4- and 5-year-olds) thru 6th grade will sit with their parents during the worship time of the 9:00 a.m. service.
  • Parents are always welcome to have their younger kids (young 4s and younger) be part of Family Worship, but we ask that an adult personally walk them to the JAM City CheckPoint desk at the end of the music worship time.

What if I am serving and can't sit with my child?

  • When you check in your child let the team at the Checkpoint team know. Your child will stay with a checkpoint team member and be taken into the service to sit with a JAM City team member.

What do we do when we arrive at 9:00 a.m.?

  • Birth-Preschool (3-year-olds/young 4s)
    - Check-in and head to class as usual. Our worship Sundays will not affect their schedule
  • PreK-6th and returning to JAM City after the music portion of the Worship Service
    - Check-in as usual
    - Attend service with their parents
    - Return to JAM City after the singing portion of the service
  • PreK-6th and staying with their parents for the entire 9 a.m. Worship Service
    - Do not need to check-in until they come to JAM City for the 10:30 a.m. programming

JAM City staff will hold on to name tags of kids going to Family Worship time.

What do we do after Family Worship Time?

  • Pastor Ryan will dismiss kids to JAM City after the music worship portion is done. Myself (Alia) and other members of the JAM City team will meet kids in the foyer. Kids will receive their nametags and head to their classes.
  • PreK/K kids will head straight into their Sunday school time
  • 1st-6th graders will have their large-group teaching time in Central Park

Please note: If we pulled your child’s tag but they have decided to sit with you during the entire service, you need to let us know! We will be using our name tags to verify all children have returned to JAM City.

Junior Baptism & Membership Class | Sundays in February

register here

This 4-week class, taught by Wally Hoppe, provides your child with information about salvation/personal testimony, baptism, the meaning of communion, and church membership. We encourage any child in grades 3-6 who have expressed an interest in baptism to take this class. Baptism is a very personal decision. Just because your child takes the class does not mean they have to be baptized or join the church. This class will be held in the 5th/6th grade classroom at 9 a.m., each Sunday, February 1-22.

Volunteer in JAM City

We have many opportunities to serve in different capacities in our children's department. Teachers, helpers, nursery workers, choir leaders, decorators, and organizers. Your talent could be just what we need. Most teaching and helpers positions are for Sunday mornings (and VBS). Nursery workers are needed for Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings, and special occasions. And some jobs can be done during the week, when you are available. We'd love to work with you, serving our God together.

All volunteers go through a background check before serving with children.
