SATURDAY UPDATE to the WHBC COVID-19 /Coronavirus Response
March 14, 2020

Dear members and friends of Washington Heights Church.

Our understanding of the COVID-19 /coronavirus outbreak is changing rapidly. In the last 12 hours we have been in consultation with medical specialists related to our church and have continued to further monitor the information available from several sources.

As each day passes we are learning more of the underlying medical facts surrounding both the character and the spread of this disease. Based on this further information, we now believe it is prudent to cancel all WHBC services and activities for tomorrow, Sunday, March 15, 2020.  This is in addition to the announcement made yesterday cancelling all other church sponsored activities for the coming week.

We know it is necessary for Christians to support one another in prayer, fellowship, and worship and we believe the opportunity for this is available even during this crisis. But this opportunity will need to be carefully structured and, at the moment, it seems wise to take additional time and carefully develop an appropriate structure in which our people may safely gather.

In the meantime, we encourage everyone to follow President Trump’s recommendation that this Sunday be reserved as a National Day of Prayer. Please pray for government authorities, pray for overworked medical teams, pray for our church leadership, pray for the abatement of this disease, and pray for the health and well-being of our people.

Please refer to video message we posted on the church website and Facebook page for spiritual encouragement in this crisis. Also available here https://youtu.be/tSz5747IT08 . There are also several area Churches who provide live streaming of their services and these may be a valuable resource.

We will continue to stay in touch so please watch for regular updates.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
