Children
We take children's ministry seriously at Washington Heights! As part of the family of God, children are significant. At Washington Heights we desire to partner with parents by helping develop their children to moral and spiritual maturity.
Sunday School
Age-appropriate classes are provided for preschool (3 year olds) through 6th grade children Sunday mornings at 9:00 am and 10:30 am. Class time includes Bible instruction, songs, games, Bible memory, and discovering how God's Word relates to a child's everyday life. Children are encouraged to be participants in the learning process, not just be spectators.
The Children’s Area is NUT FREE – 24 | 7
This means there are no types of nut products permitted in the entire area during activities throughout the week or weekend. Some children have severe nut allergies and this is the best way to keep them safe.
SECURITY AND SAFETY for all children is important. Please sign children in at the the Children’s Checkpoint Area every week.
PICK UP TIME Children (1st-6th) are required to wait in Central Park for a parent to meet them. Younger children will be in their classroom.
Nurseries
Available for birth through 2 years old during Sunday morning services, birth through 3 years old during Wednesday evening services.
Awana Clubs
In Awana Clubs, trained leaders guide children through age-appropriate material where they learn God is real, He loves them, and He has expressed that love through Jesus Christ.
- Cubbies, Sparks, Truth&Training — Wednesday evenings from September to May from 6:30 to 8:00 pm
Awana uses the Bible to teach children to honor God and others. Three segments provide start-to-finish adventure in every club meeting: Game Time, Handbook Time and Council Time. Awana is provided for ages 3 (by September 1) through 6th grade.
- Trek & Journey — Sunday evenings from September to May from 6 to 7:30 pm
Vacation Bible School
A fast-paced, fun-filled summer week of events aimed at introducing children to Jesus and developing their faith, Vacation Bible School is for children preschool age through children entering 6th grade. Vacation Bible School is held during the summer, usually the second week of June.
Music
Various children's choirs are offered throughout the year, including a choir for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten children and God's Kids Choir for 1st-4th graders.
Camp
Each summer, children ages 8-18 enjoy a week at an age-graded overnight camp. Registration for these June/July camps begins in January each year.
