Visiting a church for the first time is not always easy. We want to provide enough information about what to expect so your visit is positive. Washington Heights is a church that a lot of folks refer to as "home" or "family"...we would love for you to feel the same. Here are some things you might find helpful.
Information Center
We have a Information Center in the foyer where you will find friendly faces who can answer all your questions, show you where to go and give you information about our church. Please fill out a communication card so we can get to know you. There are commication cards at the Information Center as well as in the back of the seats in the Worship Center.
Worship
We call our Sunday morning services "Celebration Services" because our main focus is on celebrating and honoring God. We have two identical services (9:00 am & 10:30 am). We define our worship style as "blended"...a mix of hymns and contemporary songs accompanied by a varied combination of piano, organ, drums, guitars, brass, strings and wind instruments.
Our Sunday evening service (6:00 pm) is sometimes called "family time." It is a more relaxed time to enjoy being together. During these services in addition to singing and preaching we offer communion (usually first Sunday of the month), celebrate baptisms and baby dedications and other great affirmations of being part of the "Forever Family," the body of Christ at Washington Heights.
You can expect that the messages you hear from the pulpit will be relevant, effective and most importantlly, based on the absolute truth of God's Word
ABF (Adult Bible Fellowship)
These are what some churches refer to as Sunday School. We feel they are so much more. To find out what ABFs are all about, visit our ABF page. There are ABFs during both Sunday morning services, so if you find one you like, you'll still be able to attend a Celebration Service. ABFs are one of the most important ministries of our church as they are the primary method of connecting with people. Please feel free to visit any of the ABFs until you find one that is a perfect fit.
Children
We love children at Washington Heights and have programs for kids of all ages that will provide care and encouragement. We provide nurseries for children from birth to preschool during all of our services. Sunday School for children from preschool to 6th grade meet at 9:00 am on Sundays. During the 10:30 am hour, a children's church program is provided. All of our programming is centered on introducing children to Jesus Christ through solid and effective Bible teaching and activities.
Youth
Students in grades 7-12 have their own separate class that meets during the 10:30 am hour. The time includes worship and relevant teaching from the Word of God by godly adults who love to make the Bible come alive for students.
Dress
Washington Heights has a casual and relaxed atmosphere. You will find a variety of styles of dress on a Sunday morning...some will dress up, some will dress down. There are no expectations about what you should wear...whatever is comfortable for you is okay.
